Loved this article, thank you!

I personally haven’t watched WandaVision as I have a dislike for the Marvel Franchise, but I have enjoyed re-watching the entirety of Sex and the City, so I understand the concept of the “comfort show” well.

I really enjoyed how you related our obsession with nostalgia to the current pandemic and it makes a lot of sense. I have just finished reading Grafton Tanner’s book Circle of the Snake by Zero Books, who discusses cultural nostalgia through a wider, non pandemic lens. I recommend it if you are interested in this topic. He argues that nostalgia is built into streaming services and social media platforms as we get stuck in algorithmic feedback loops which re-hash the same products for consumption. He also states that nostalgia is mostly apparent in times of trauma or hardship, and the ongoing pandemic could definitely be called a time of trauma. Reading your article alongside this book explains a lot about why so much media now is based around the past, even It’s a Sin being set in the 1980’s is interesting to consider in this context.

Anyway, great read!
